::: Halloween 2004 NYC :::

Ok, these are old, but I just recently got the pictures thanks to Pepi. The first picture is me just any day waiting for the L train. I know, I was FAT, that was the result of spending one month studying in the swiss alps with buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner...

The halloween day we went to a party at Ducci's place, one of the members of Gnatos. Gnatos was a band that made a couple of home recordings and that's all there is, apparently they dissolved soon after I left NYC. That night we played, we drank, we smoked, we danced.

Here we have our beloved Ian Szydlowsky aka P-Slut or more recently known as Putak. Ian, contrary to what most people in Chile believe, is quite alive, and probably more than ever. He is currently dedicated to Flash programming and he's making good money out of it. I stayed with him and my cousing Diego Fernández in a very nice flat in Greenpoint, the polish neighborhood north of Williamsburg. I spent two months there, October and November 2004. I don't know how they could stand me that long, but fortunately we keep being friends. During my season there I convinced him to go to Bikram Yoga since I found a nice place in Billyburg that had this promotion, you could go one week for twenty bucks. So, we went the whole week and Ian loved it and now he's one of the most enthusiast Bikramists I know. As you can see in this picture he had the guts of wearing an Osama costume in NYC... This lead to a whole new personality for Ian, Osama Bien Lacho was born that night...

The very hot and yummy nurse that is posing with him is Pepi. She's the one we have to thank for sending the pictures, although this picture was actually taken by myself. I made her nurse hat that night before going to the party. As you can see, we were on the middle of the Kerry/Bush campaign and she was wearing a sticker, BushOnCrack. Pepi is a great writer, she had a famous column in a chilean newspaper for years and recently she won the first prize for a short story contest in Paula magazine. Nevertheless, the life in the city is not easy and sometimes you have to do less arty stuff in order to survive. Few people know that Pepi wrote this book, 10 Negocios que puedes empezar con menos de $500. I bet she forgot to mention that one of the businesses you can do with less than $500 is actually writing a book about the 10 business you can do with less than $500...

Here we have another shot of Ian, this time with my cousing Diego. For the sceptic people, please note that Diego is my real primo. We started calling each other "primo" as a joke because we had the same last name, but one day he came to my house and my father asked him for his father's name. When Diego said Jorge Fernández, my dad went like, Jorgito? but he's my cousin! They both lived in the same street when kids, and apparently Jorge had some luck seducing some of my aunties... you know, family stuff... yuck!

In this picture I was playing some very minimal and repetitive piano lines for the Gnatos session that night... Please note my perfect finger technique...

The day after we kept partying, but Ian changed his costume (you bet, some people freaked out the night before...) Then he was Ian the fridge...

This last picture was during my own 29th birthday, Nov 17 2004, in a Japanese restaurant in Billyburg. The baby face was a mask that was in the restaurant, not a photoshop cut and paste. You can see Ivan Navarro, Francisca Benitez and Ian laughing their guts out... I really don't understand, what is so funny about it??

:::the block is bag:::

If you've visited this place recently you have probably realized that I've been editing the last post several times and once I even deleted all the texts that went with the pictures. The problem was that one day after smoking a joint I got a bit scared about this thing, making your life and friends kinda public... but WTF... If you don't like it don't let me take your picture. Anyway, feel free to leave your comments, feedback is the best thing to have. Thank you very much to the people who posted nice comments that encouraged me to keep the blog.

Cheers!

::: pictures : last two weeks :::

In the mirror.. a little narcissism for starters...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

DJ Paula Burgos just before a set for a local radio station in a weird bar called Mambo. Washington was there too.. but he was moving too fast to be captured by this slow and low quality camera...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

El Planta aka Sebastian Garat, waiting at Mambo for the djs to arrive...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Planta again, closer and darker shot... Planta has recently realized he cannot fight with his nickname, so he actually made a gardening company after temporarily retiring from his career as a cook. So, finally you know someone to trust the pruning of your "medicine" plants... All the best with your new business!!

Tortuga a.k.a David Wolff at the doping-test facilities in La Salita... He was celebrating his girlfriend's birthday that night...

Michelle Letelier, the best girl in town. In spite of her name, she actually does not speak french but german. Great artist, she does video installations and photography. She keeps her low profile and works like few artists do. Checkout her excellent website NOWHERE. Some people claim she works for an international mob of "something" and mysterious money comes into her account.. do not pay attention to those mean-intentioned gossips...

The yet-to-be famous chilean artist Diego Hernández at José Miguel Salazar's place. Buy his paintings today, tomorrow they will be too expensive!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

DJ Vanyla, the same night. He played fucking good last saturday at Minga (do not mistake with a really bad internet radio station), a nice underground spot in Irarrazaval 457 (beware the goth kids at Balleduc righ beside...) Check his wonderful website mynews.

José Miguel, our host that night. Besides being a lawyer, he is one of the few music collectors of this country and probably the most demanding critic of the local scene. Few people have ever heard a praise come out from his lips. God, he has some music...

Chugo Avez, fictional character that fills the freudian need for a father for many underground and not-so-underground urban tribes. He likes to collect lost rich kids from the streets and give them a reason to live by any means available. Many people doubt he actually exists, claiming the fact that since no killing attempt has ever worked on him this would contradict the freudian imperative to kill the father. This blurry image does not account for a proof of existence...

DJ Lari, aka Andrés Zanzi, playing incognito in Santiago CL for RINFM, the first and best and only chilean internet radio station.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Headshot of Lariboy. Lari is currently staying for some months in Chile taking advantage of the swedish postnatal social benefits... He is doing a career in the swedish government, so watch out, perhaps one day the swedish presidend will be chilean indeed... and a DJ too....

Camila Berger, at her place one night, designer and art director of a local fashion magazine. I always been in love with her, but she doesn't take me seriously...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

My friend, the poet and Ivy League PhD Matías Ayala...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

José Antonio Cousiño, aka Cow or Cou, another of my friends with sounding family names but no money in their bank accounts... Besides being a psychologist (good and cheap, if you need assistance ask for his number...) he does massage clases at ManPower... sick bastard!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

She's the one to blame I exist at all, my mom. In Valparaiso, eating a nice corvina at Cafe Turri. I really appreciate she went with me to try the motorcycle I want to buy, even when no mother wants his little son to ride such machines...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Michelle Gravel, another girl with a french name that doesn't speak a word of french. She is a producer of a local fashion magazine and the new girfriend of my friend Benjamin below.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Benjamín Echazarreta, the original guachupé, now back in chilly country after perfectioning his filming technics in France for several years. He even went to Cannes as the cinematographer of a short movie that was this close to win the big prize. Too sad that in Chile his only option to make money is doing stupid advertising... But he's in love and that will fill the gap. We're very happy to have him back. Thank you Michelle!!

These last two picture were taken in the Santiago Film Festival at the CineHoyts La Reina, right before we entered to see Tarnation. Great movie, but too much ego involved.. come on... there are bigger problems on earth than your own fucking sexual traumas!
